While most of the people crazy about iPhone, they might need to think about other newer option. No doubt that iPhone is one of the first mobile phone has the smooth touch screen but more option can be opted from the newest competitor, BlackBerry Storm.
BlackBerry Storm is Here
Lots of rumors heard since last year. iPhone phenomenon did not outlast when another great invention by Research In Motion takes place on December, 2008. BlackBerry Storm is finally arriving here in Malaysia. For those who does not recognize BlackBerry, better be quick to Google it or you will miss the train. The stylish Storm deserved much better appreciation than her counterpart, iPhone. Yet, read through this article and you are the judge on who is the winner.
Different Between Storm and IPhone

A lot of different can be seen between these two phones. Storm has the 3.2 Megapixels camera while IPhone has only 2.0 Megapixels. BlackBerry Storm has better camera than the iPhone. BlackBerry Storm equipped with a 3.2 MP camera with image stabilization, auto-focus, white balance, variable zoom and flash. The 2.0 MP camera of iPhone is still not up to the mark to be fair. With Storm you can also capture videos.
The iPhone battery runs out faster than BlackBerry which makes it less reliable for corporate use. Although one reason for this may be due to the fact that iPhone is used for more tasks. But still I feel that iPhone has a poor battery.
iPhone is bad because users can’t change the batteries themselves. Everything is locked up and has to be sent to the authorized service center. The media storage is fixed. You can’t do much about it. Eventhough iPhone has the 3G capabilities but you can’t even use it as a modem. Worst part is iPhone doesn’t have the push email capabilities. Not only is that, MMS is a big NO with iPhone. With Storm, you can have the ability to do MMS, push emails, document editor, changing battery and also changing to the bigger memory card.
Tactile touch screen is another great Storm feature. You still can sweep the screen like iPhone but you don’t feel as smooth as iPhone. It doesn’t matter anyway because you don’t need that feature.
If you like to browse and have to connect to the internet 24 hours, BlackBerry Storm is a must. Even with Safari, iPhone can’t challenge Storm in term of fast browsing. Storm is clear winner over iPhone.
Telco C vs Telco M
The Telco out there provide options that we consumers can probably get the best deals. If you have two options, one is cheaper with a minimal contract length while the other option is more expensive with longer contract, which option will you choose?
Look at the chart below:
|
|
TELCO C |
TELCO M |
|
Price |
RM1,399 or RM1,699 |
RM2,199 |
|
Contract |
12 months |
24 months |
|
Internet & BBery Usage |
Unlimited |
Depending on Package |
The different between Telco M and Telco C are the prices and contract length. Telco M is offering 24 months contract while Telco C is offering 12 months contract. The longer the contract is the longer you will be in the hand and lost your freedom to utilize the new Mobile Number Portability (MNP).
User Experience; Untold Story
I have three colleagues which converted to Telco C from Telco M. They have been with Telco M since year 1999. Taking chances from the MNP program, they switched to Telco C Exec 50 to test the quality and savings. Finally they can save around 20% to 30% a month compared when they were with Telco M. Finally because of the Telco C Exec 50 program is without contract, they purchased the BlackBerry Bold, RM1, 699 with commitment fees of RM188 a month. Talktime value worth of RM148 and guess what, they can call nationwide number for RM0.10/minutes and SMS from RM0.02/sms. I personally think that this is the cheapest package is Malaysia. They have been using it for about 3 months now and I can’t see their bills more than RM190 a month compared to RM300 to RM500 when with Telco M.
Planning To Have BlackBerry Storm?
If you really want to have the BlackBerry Storm, only two Telco in Malaysia provide the solution. Telco D is planning to launch their BlackBerry services by this year. Telco C and Telco M are the only player can satisfy you. Which will you choose?
If you read thoroughly from above, you will definitely choose Telco C. It is because of the cheaper call rate, cheaper overall packages and etc.

2Are you writing or campaigning? It sounds biased.
Perhaps you are paid to write (mercenary writer) because the contents are so glaringly one sided.
Sometimes, a writer writes with fear, another time with favour and most of the time with fear and favour.
But an honest writer will always write without fear or favour.
Which category do you belong?

3seriously, the iphone is great and all, i even have one myself, but this device has so many flaws that i cant wait to get rid of it, no video recording?no mms? no copy and paste? no qwerty? come on all these features are so basic that 4-5 year old phones have them maybe even older, so how could you compare storm to a phone which lacks so much.
Just like comparing an apple with a guava.
But i have to wait for the price war when all these so called smart (idiot) phones will start slaughtering one another.

4Hey xxray,
I’m the writer who doesn’t take money to write.
I’m a writer with honor.
and I’m standing while the standing is not easy..
allspark,
You made the points. Seriously, iPhone is not comparable with Storm. Do you read about the new iPhone 3G release? It was a bad launch actually.

5i prefer blacberry storm.. iphone 3g is expensive with less features and maxis is sucking the people dry with their overpricing.
Celcom should stay focus in delivering features that people want and keep the berry price within reach. Initially, your profit may not be as high as that of Maxis but believe me, in the long run as the sales volume increases, so will the profit.
And then you can have the last laugh while maxis is rueing their greedy blunder.

6and I’m standing while the standing is not easy..
by the way, are you a security guard that require you to stand.
And your reply does not answer the question posted by xxray that you are a mercenary writer.
If it is a preview, the pros and cons of both models should be highlighted but your article is glaringly one sided.
I suspect this storm fellows must have bribed you. For your info, taking bribes is an offence.
Perhaps MACC should look into this.
And I dare you to publish this comment.

9to answer both xxray and oldtimer julieremie..
I’m still standing while standing is not easy means: I’m fighting with all troubles including my old long habit, smoking. I quit !!
Even though TMTOUCH blacklisted me because of the long overdue postpaid bills - year 1999 - during that time when their promoters were giving out free sim card and registration, but I’m still on their side. It is because while other telcos are trying hard and are spending so much on tv commercials and print ads, Celcom keep it to the minimum while giving out more to the customers.
Except for their corporate customers especially those who have taken the Blackberry under the stealth plan, I can surely confirm that their registrations are not finalized even after 2 weeks of taking home their phone.
I wonder what the accounts manager on the 18th floor does? He/she does not answer client’s phone calls, do not even bother to return the calls, hyper slow in updating and registering. I guess the virus known as TIDAK APA ATTITUDE transmitted from the CIVIL SERVICE are settling on them. Why bother maa…end of every month, they still get their salary.
I have a few friends who took the installment/stealth plan from Celcom but eventually lost patience and sold their BlackBerry to other friends for the simple reason that their lines are not activated after few weeks of possessing the BB. Until now their accounts have yet to be updated. Good luck to them.
Haven’t Celcom heard the saying, “a happy customer tells three friends, an unhappy one tells ten”. Wake up Celcom. Don’t commit harakiri.
Khm3r : I miss you too man !! When do you plan to come back to Malaysia?? iPhone is old technology..I suggest you to buy the linux open source phone : NEO (google it)..I don’t purposely forget to return your email. Sorry to inform that I am really packed with work. By the way, how is the adbrite going? If they still banned you, then you need to comply with their requirements by sending what they need. e.g: utility bill, latest proof of debit card statement etc etc
BlackBerry nih useless kalau beli without package. Sebab tujuan utama kita nak BB servis dimana perlu dengan pakej tersebut.
Tapi still boleh guna jika kita amik plan 148 (unlimited broadband)

11I don’t think that Maxis can outcome Celcom.
They hurt so much when government promoted the new MNP system.
Most of the users jump to celcom from Maxis and if im not mistaken digi get the benefits too

12My colleague received his STORM last week. Celcom finally activated the line yesterday.
I noticed that Storm way to read emails is interesting and fun if compared with fragile iPhone.
One major setback for Storm is the unit comes without WIFI capability. Not sure why RIM produced this kind of phone. Maybe to promote the super slow 3G connectivity?

14I wouldn’t decide on which Telco to use, but I would still stick with the iPhone though.
Maybe I prefer a device that is made by computer programmers. I’ve gotta try out the new Blackberry to confirm this.
