NajibSuch  headline by a prominent mainstream media could have been applauded had it been ’spinned’ a decade or two before. Readers would have been awed at such tribute especially from the first coloured president of the United States. The days when rubbish from  the print media were embraced like gold bars from treasure island are long gone. In the cyber age, such spinning desreve no more than flaks.

Obama salutes Najib…President of the most powerful nation saluting a Prime Minister of a small country and better still a new “recepient” of the most sought-after post in Malaysia.

Yes, a new recipient. Unlike Obama or the democratic system in the US where the president is chosen by the people, a premiership in Malaysia is handed over on a silver platter. Or at most ‘recommended’ by those few hundred or so UMNO divisional heads or warlords whose representations are “questionable”.

Or perhaps Obama realised the power that this man called Najib wield. Had Obama been associated with the ‘baggages’ of Najib, he wouldn’t be able to even sniff the senatorship much less the post of President. And Obama could have also realised that the longest he could stand on that pedestal is eight years whereas in Malaysia, a prime minister could outlast three or four US presidents or even die of old age in office.

Putting it in a nutshell, by January 2017 the latest, even if Obama had by then, as expected resurrected the US image and  economy, he  would still be known as ‘former president’ while Najib could still be the most powerful man in Malaysia. What an irony!

Sadly, the most powerful man have chosen someone who cocked up his first oversea press conference. What can anyone do if the all knowing wise PM has decided to reward a loyal UMNO warlord who once spurned (that’s what he claimed) the offer to be the second most powerful man in Malaysia. Perhaps, without his loyalty, Najib could have been sitting in the opposition bench at best or God knows where he would have been by now.

“also just for the information of the audience here that, you know, he also said that he will form a government on 16 September and he has changed the dates many time. And he was trying to entice the members of parliament. And I was personally offered to jump into the oppositions and offered a very lucrative position, and also to be told it’s like a deputy prime minister. And these are not known to the world at large”.

Does it not sound like a script?

How on earth such garbage could have spilled out from its container. Was there a question that require such an answer. Or was he ‘enticed’ by a group of more intelligent creature to lay bare his intelligence or perhaps his deficiency as a representative from (east) Malaysia. After all, isn’t he representing his country, his boss or at the very least projecting the image as the most fluent English speaking politician from Sabah. Or to no lesser extent reflecting his employer’s mentality. Yes, relections that cast a long shadow that could indefinitely undermine the perspective of other countries on Malaysian leadership.

Would we have heard such rumblings from Syed Hamid or Rais Yatim or Pak Lah even if these former foreign ministers were to smear opposing politicians. Their communications skill in handling English speaking journalists are miles ahead and as such they could easily disguise their attacks. And in Pak Lah,  more often than not, he will not indulge in personal crusifications.

Or could he be just obeying instructions from his superior…”attack Anwar by all means”. Or perhaps he was reciting what he had been told. Just as a freshie who has been jobless for years after graduation, and suddenly out of the blue he was offered a job that he has yearned. Surely he will not let slip the opportunity to impress his saviour by whatever means even to the extent of licking his arse. Regrettably,  he had chosen the wrong arena.

Could Najib had erred by installing the wrong ‘echo sounder’. Or was he compelled to purchase one from a reject shop?

Shocking. Very very shocking. Never in the history of Malaya / Malaysia a Prime Minister received acknowledgement(s) of his existence or rise to power in such manner. One could not help but wonder whether it is a congratulatory compliment or no, no no, hopefully not as a degrading insult. Only Obama and his team could answer.

But we can provide Najib and company an inkling for the purported delay. Remember the questions from the journalists pertaining to Anwar? And how Najib’s ’spokesman’ wagging his tail echoing his saviour’s shallow thought. If Obama has not had the time to listen to what the ‘echo sounder’ dished out from the garbage bin, his people could perhaps have picked the stinking smell. And that will not go down well in the US.

Will there be backlash? Why worry. Malaysian mainstream media can spin faster than a spinning ‘gasing’. The spin doctors are now experts in turning insults into compliments. And the UMNO diehards will forever be awed.
