The two CEO for AirAsia and MAS shown interest of competing with each other. While MAS launched a new product that it called Zero Fare whereby domestic travellers need only pay the airport tax and surcharges. Jala also announced that the airline had set aside one million tickets for the travel period between June 10 and Dec 14.
At the same time, AirAisa’s CEO Tony Fernandes told the press that he will pay back the differences in the ticket if someone can proof that MAS ticket is cheaper than AirAsia. So if you stuck in between this two option, what do you want to choose?
As for me, I will choose MAS as we all know the carrier is much more better than AirAsia plus the cabin crew is much more beautiful.
Read the comment by Tony Fernandes that published in The Star :
“The first thing they should do is to allow us to fly more flights to Singapore instead of asking the Government not to allow us to do so. They should also allow us to stage more flights from different points in Malaysia to Singapore,” said Fernandes.
He was responding to a statement by MAS managing director Datuk Seri Idris Jala who said the national carrier was creating new demand from low fares, just like AirAsia.
He said MAS should work together with AirAsia instead of competing and accused the full service airline of “surrendering” to Singapore Airlines (SIA).
This shows that now the competition is very high and both of them are pointing each other of being flattered and copycat. Think about what Tony said, it makes sense. Why must MAS compete with AirAsia while they can combined with each other to fight the other country’s carrier.
Instead of jumping in the same red ocean in the South East Asia region, MAS can come out with a better way and better innovation to create and cater the new market segment. If me being given a chance to run the MAS, I will concentrate on creating more buzz on the internet advertising compared to the traditional media.
Secondly make a very good relationship with all the travel agencies like raising up the commission structure given to them to get more passengers. If they can bundle up with gifts and more added value without having to sacrifice their revenue, it will be a better option rather than jump in and swim the bloody ocean with AirAsia.
Have you look at the top advertisement today, it is about the JetStar. This is the new underdog company that want to jump together with the AirAsia and making the market very tight. Only wise man think a like. Cheers

1Fact is MAS is not sacrificing revenue. MAS already explained the low fares are offered on normally unsold seats of low capacity planes. So it is likened to cheap sale to move merchandise. As for Tony F’s call for MAS to work together with AirAsia - good one. Since when has AirAsia ever signaled intent to join forces with MAS? Tony F sounds desperate.
